Pilihan Bersalin Di Rumah
Tuesday, October 16, 2012
Many women find labouring and giving birth in water a very positive experience. Using water during labour aids relaxation, reduces the need for pain relief and initial research suggests that it is just as safe for both mother and baby as labouring on land.
If you want to use water during your labour, it's a good idea to find out while you're pregnant whether your hospital can provide a bath, shower or pool and staff to support your choice. If you plan to have your baby at home you may also want to talk to your doctor or midwife about the possibility of having a water birth.
In some countries, such as the UK and Canada, water births are more common and have been widely accepted in mainstream medical circles for many years. In Malaysia, the first water birth is believed to have taken place in 2008, and is still only available in two hospitals, Island Hospital in Penang and Pantai Medical Centre in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Both are private facilities. If you know of another facility where water births are available, let us know.
The Gentle Birth Support Group (mygentlebirth@gmail.com) in Kuala Lumpur will be able to provide support for women who want a water birth. The group also tracks which doctors and hospitals provide water birth facilities.
