but then today, i have received some news, not really good news. baby iman suspected with G6PD. baby iman kene tahan di ward for 5 days, doctors will do some test to confirm the disease.

'GLUCOSE 6 Phosphate Dehydrogenase deficiency' atau lebih dikenali sebagai G6PD adalah sejenis penyakit yang kerap berlaku. Dianggarkan 400 juta penduduk dunia mengalami masalah itu. G6PD sejenis penyakit yang dikaitkan dengan kromosom X, justeru masalah ini lazimnya berlaku kepada lelaki.
Dalam kes G6PD, enzim penting untuk melindungi sel darah merah pecah disebabkan proses oksidasi (proses menghasilkan oksigen dengan menggabungkan oksigen atau menyingkirkan hidrogen).
Justeru, kekurangan enzim berkenaan menyebabkan sel darah merah mudah pecah. Tahap keseriusan penyakit G6PD ini bergantung kepada tahap kekurangan enzim itu.

Bagaimana masalah ini dikesan?

Penyakit ini dapat dikesan melalui ujian darah sebaik saja seorang bayi itu dilahirkan. Ujian darah itu akan mengesan keberkesanan enzim berkenaan. Melakukan ujian darah sebaik saja dilahirkan sudah diamalkan di Malaysia sejak sekian lama. Ini kerana masalah G6PD kerap berlaku di Malaysia dan boleh menyebabkan masalah di kalangan bayi baru lahir.
Antara masalah yang mungkin timbul di kalangan bayi baru lahir adalah jaundis. Disebabkan kekurangan enzim itu, sel darah merah bayi mudah pecah. Ini menghasilkan kandungan bilirubin yang tinggi.
Kandungan bilirubin yang terlalu tinggi boleh menyebabkan keadaan toksik kepada otak. Jika tidak diubati boleh menyebabkan kecacatan kepada bayi.

Oleh kerana kemungkinan masalah besar yang mungkin timbul kepada bayi yang mengalami G6PD, kebanyakan institusi perubatan akan menahan bayi berkenaan di wad sekurang-kurangnya lima hari sebelum dibenarkan pulang.
Selain itu, bayi G6PD ini juga boleh berhadapan keadaan dinamakan “acute hemolysis”, iaitu keadaan wujudnya sel darah merah pecah pada kuantiti terlalu banyak. Ini menyebabkan bayi itu berasa penat dan kelihatan pucat dengan tiba tiba. Simptom lain yang mungkin dialami adalah sakit perut, jaundis, kencing bertukar berwarna gelap dan sakit pinggang.

Keadaan ini berlaku disebabkan jangkitan, memakan kacang parang jenis “fava beans” ataupun memakan ubatan yang boleh meninggikan proses oksidasi. Bukan semua jenis jangkitan akan menyebabkan masalah itu. Sebaliknya jangkitan yang selalu dikaitkan dengan acute hemolysis adalah jangkitan oleh bakteria.
Banyak ubat-ubatan yang tidak dapat diambil oleh mereka yang mengalami masalah G6PD. Senarai ubatan ini panjang dan apa yang perlu dilakukan adalah selalu memberitahu doktor yang merawat anak mengenai masalah anak anda yang mengalami G6PD. Ini dapat mengelakkan mereka menggunakan ubat-ubatan yang boleh menyebabkan komplikasi.

Di antara ubat-ubatan yang boleh membawa komplikasi

Ubat-ubatan penyakit malaria dan antibiotik yang mengandungi kandungan sulfur. Selain daripada ubat, kacang parang jenis “fava beans “ juga boleh menyebabkan oksidasi sel darah merah. Selain itu juga komplikasi G6PD juga dikaitkan dengan penggunaan ubat serangga.

Rawatan

Cara rawatan yang utama adalah mengelakkan daripada perkara yang boleh menyebabkan acute hemolysis seperti yang dinyatakan di atas. Kadangkala sel darah merah yang pecah secara keterlaluan menyebabkan bayi itu pucat. Ini mungkin memerlukan pemindahan darah. Perlu diingatkan juga, masalah G6PD ini disebabkan kekurangan penghasilan enzim dan ini adalah masalah yang akan kekal buat selamanya.

Penting kepada para Ibubapa ... ketahui kesihatan anak anda ....
Benda ini biasanya tertulis di dalam kad kesihatan anak anda (biru @ pink) ....

as a working mum we have no choice either to use babysitter or maid kat umah. tp bg i i would prefer for babysitter because i dunt like stranger at our home.
now i believe im having a very good babysitter, alhamdulillah....mama lela pandai jaga rayna, every time i fetch her for mama lela's house rayna will show her happy face n trust ma gut feeling dat she been doing a very good job. :D

It's not always easy to know whether your child's caregiver is doing the job she's supposed to. To find out, you may have to do some sleuthing. Some parents who suspect something may be amiss rent surveillance equipment. But it's often possible to tell whether something's wrong without going to that extreme.

You may have trouble on your hands if:

• Your baby isn't happy to see the sitter and has become anxious and withdrawn. A regular caregiver can never replace Mom or Dad, but a baby needs to trust and love his babysitter. Perhaps your child and caregiver haven't bonded, or the babysitter just isn't providing the kind of warmth and comfort your child needs. As in every human relationship, having the right chemistry is important. (If you suspect something more serious is wrong, educate yourself about the signs of child abuse.) (yes definitely, rayna has chemistry wif mama lela, sbb she seems so calm when see mama lela, n bila nak balik she couldn't take her eyes of mama lela)


• Your babysitter seems secretive about how they spent the day. How your baby and his caregiver spend their time shouldn't be a secret. When you come home, you're probably eager to hear about your child and what happened while you were apart. If your caregiver isn't forthcoming about it, either she's not good at communicating with you or she has something to hide. Even a caregiver whose English is limited should be able to convey the ups and downs of your baby's day, and will understand why you want to know. (no, no, no this not happening for me, sbb mama lela will report ape2 aje yang die n rayna buat sepanjang hari :), contoh "kak lela bawak rayna jalan-jalan amik angin arini", i believe her...dan i juga tawakal pada Allah agar diselamatkan rayna dari ape2 perkara yang buruk)

• Your baby has been in one too many easily avoidable accidents. A babysitter must keep her eye on your child and know what he's doing at all times to prevent injury. She may be leaving your child unattended as he sleeps or plays. (alhamdulillah, x pernah plak rayna ade luka ke ape2, pernah le one time dahi rayna lebam, x sempat i tnye die dh explain...kepala cucu die berlaga ngn kepala rayna..xpe2 kepala rayna kuat :D)

• You notice your requests aren't followed. Both of you are working together to care for your child, so a caregiver shouldn't act as if she knows more about him and childrearing than you do. (owh..i will tell wut is gud for rayna, example mama lela bg air masak kat rayna n she did told me..as i exclusively breastfed my baby..i wouldn't allow air masak..so i bgtau mama lela n alhamdulillah die follow :D)

• Your babysitter often shows up late. An undependable caregiver will leave you in the lurch time and time again. Find someone who you know is committed to the job and considerate of your needs. Tardiness and unexplained absences may mean she's unreliable in other ways as well. (nie x berlaku sbb i yang hantar rayna kat umah mama lela, die x pernah xde kat umah each time i hantar rayna)


• Your baby often looks unkempt and dirty. If your little one's caregiver can't take care of the basics, it may be a sign that she's not on the ball when it comes to meeting your child's needs. (hehehe smlm i bgtau mama lela, wahh rayna macam pengawas sekolah sbb rayna nmpk so kemas n her hair was comb neatly hehhhehe)

• Her stories don't add up. Never tolerate someone who steals, lies, or deceives you in any way. You have to be able to trust your caregiver for the relationship to work. (alhamdulillah...i trust her, besides die mmg biasa jaga baby, n mama lela used to take care of her grandchild..we have a mutual trust on each other)

mama lela, she is a very gud lady, her age is like my mum...so i treat her more or less like my mum, all i know she been doing a very gud job since rayna sihat n happy. now badan rayna dh berketak2, alhamdulillah semuanya berkat susu ibu :D bukan nk bangga diri, tp i really proud of myself when i look at my dear rayna because i managed to breastfeed her for about 6 months, insyallah i will extend it until rayna 2 tahun. RAYNA MEMBESAR BAGAI JOHAN.

now ibu wants to imagine hows rayna looks inside that cute little thing :)

baby walker is like a little wagon for our baby, i m still thinking weather to buy or not to buy...so cute when rayna is inside the baby walker but i must consider one thing which is the safety of the baby walker...

Putting a baby in a walker is like giving a teenager a Ferrari -- a dangerous risk. That's why, as of April 2007, Canada has banned the sale of baby walkers.

UK data suggests, however, that more accidents and injuries happen in babywalkers than with any other form of baby equipment. This is because they give babies extra speed (a baby can reach up to one meter per second in one zoom), extra height, and access to multiple hazards.

Most injuries are caused by falls when the babywalker tips and the baby is thrown downstairs or crashes into furniture, heaters, or ovens. There is also an increased risk of your baby being burnt by previously inaccessible objects, such as candles and hot cups of tea. Thirdly, it allows her to reach household poisons, such as perfume, mouthwash, or alcohol, left at a previously safe level.

Most people believe that when a baby is occupied in his little 'wagon', he is safe and can be left unsupervised for short periods. In reality, extra vigilance is needed when your baby is in a baby walker and your baby would be safer left on the floor in a hazard-free room. (Read tips on baby-proofing your house).

Walkers won't help your baby learn to walk and in fact, using one too much may even delay her development slightly. A baby needs to roll, crawl, sit and to play on the floor, in order to reach her developmental milestones.

In spite of the worrying statistics, an outright ban on walkers could be unrealistic. Some experts feel they should be designed only for babies over 9 months of age who are already sitting and crawling, and are limited in the speed that they can travel. It should be compulsory for customers to be given clear safety guidelines when buying a baby walker. (If there are no clear guidelines, be wary and do your due research.)

If someone suggests a walker for your baby consider alternatives or, better still, let her exercise on the floor in the good, old-fashioned way.

i should agree with this articles because:
1: Baby walker not really safe for Rayna
2: Baby walker doesn't help Rayna to develop her walking skills, so let her develop it naturally
3: I can save some money, instead of buying bb walker i will definitely buy her lots of toys, yippie rayna

only mother & father knows what best for the babies, it is still up to u weather to but it or not...n i also found that bb walker has its own attraction, for example gives so much fun to your baby, ur baby can moves by herself (of course with supervision for mom n dad) and also we can occupied baby's times while we can do our work.
