A Malaysian pop star with a bogus doctorate has been running a college offering University of Wales degree courses, a BBC investigation shows.
A Bangkok college that Thai authorities say has been operating illegally, is also offering courses leading to degrees from the Welsh institution.
Week in Week Out examined the way in which the University of Wales validated courses in overseas institutions.
The university said it was dealing "thoroughly" with the issues raised.
The programme revealed that Fazley Yaakob, who runs the Fazley International College (FICO) in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, was claiming to have both a masters and a doctorate in business administration.
But both came from a bogus university.
The pop star, who has four hit albums to his name, claimed the qualifications from the European Business School (Cambridge), an offshoot of the Irish International University, which was exposed as a sham by the BBC in 2008.

He said the University of Wales did not ask about his credentials, which were displayed prominently on the college website until he was confronted by BBC Wales' education correspondent Ciaran Jenkins in Kuala Lumpur.
Professor Nigel Palastanga, pro vice chancellor at the University of Wales, said the university was "concerned" about the issues raised in the programme.
"We are not happy about what is happening, we are dealing with it and will deal with it very thoroughly and will learn lessons from what has happened," he said.
The University of Wales announced it had suspended its involvement with Fazley International College, and would take no new admissions to its business administration and MBA courses until the matter had been investigated.
Professor Palastanga said there were no concerns about academic standards at the college.
Meanwhile, Thai authorities said Accademia Italiana, a fashion college offering University of Wales validated courses in Bangkok, Thailand, had been operating illegally.
Dr Sumate Yammoon, Secretary General of the Commission on Higher Education in Thailand, said last week that the matter was in the hands of the police.
However, Professor Palastanga said the situation had now changed.
"My information is that the college is now operating legally within the Thai system," he said.
Jenny Randerson AM, the Welsh Liberal Democrat education spokesperson, said she believed the University of Wales had now "run its course" and that its remaining accredited institutions in Wales - Swansea Metropolitan University, UWIC, Glyndwr University, Trinity Saint David and University of Wales, Newport - could operate independently.
Fazley Yaakob has four hit albums to his name Universities in Wales are bracing themselves for the outcome of a review into the governance of higher education, ordered by Education Minister Leighton Andrews.
He has now instructed the review to look at the issues raised in the Week In Week Out programme.
Cardiff University left the University of Wales in 2004 while the universities of Bangor, Swansea and Aberystwyth decided to offer their own degrees in 2008.
In November 2008, a BBC Wales Dragon's Eye investigation showed that the University of Wales validated courses run by a controversial bible college in the United States.
The university severed its ties with Trinity College of the Bible in Newburgh, Indiana shortly before the programme was broadcast.
Professor Palastanga said it was "not good" for the university's reputation when things went wrong, however he stressed it worked continually with its partners to uphold standards.
The University of Wales validates courses in more than 100 colleges in more than 40 countries.
There are currently 70,000 students studying for University of Wales degrees worldwide.
The university said the profits from its international validation programmes were invested in Welsh higher education.
Responding to a question from Jenny Randerson AM on the investigation, First Minister Carwyn Jones told the assembly the education minister has already asked the review of HE governance to look into this matter.
"Primarily, it's an issue for the University of Wales and its reputation," Mr Jones told AMs.
"So it's exceptionally important that the University of Wales takes note of the allegations that have been made, and then of course takes steps to ensure that if the allegations are correct, that there is no opportunity for anybody to use the name of the University of Wales in an inappropriate way."

i remembered, it was friday night. biasa if rayna nak tido, sure die akan cari eray. rayna suke menyusu sampai tertido. tapi malam tuh macam lain, die tido nak tido sendiri. terkatup2 mate nak tido. eray pun jadi sedey, terus angkat die masuk dalam bilik. eray offer susu, tapi die letak jek mulut, tak susu pas2 tido.
lepas die nyenyak eray thought everything is fine. tapi sebenarnya mase eray tidurkan rayna, i've felt her body temprature slightly higher than usual. eray assume, maybe demam sikit.
eray and mr. hubby tak tido lagi, sebab tunggu kedatangan my parents from johor. tunggu punya tunggu pukul 12.00mlm sampai. borak lebih kurang, we all pun tido.
pukul 2.30am, rayna tetiba bangun dan menangis. kuat sangat, eray ingat die mengigau or sumthing. i've tried to comfort her by offering my milk, tapi percubaan gagal. rayna terus menangis. eray cuba lak letak die atas bahu sambil urut-urut belakang die. rayna jadi tenang sikit tapi die tak mo tido.
few minutes after that, eray pun letakkan rayna semula atas katil. die tenang & she starred at one spot. eray dah mula rase tak best, but i just ignored the feeling & akhirnya eray pun tertido.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.................
waaaaarrrghhhhhhh!!!! menangis campur menjerit, kali nie eray tersentak. terus bangun. it was not a normal cry. the same cry that i've heard last time, macam dalam entry rayna & imaginary friend.
it's not only rayna was different, mr. hubby pun semacam. mr. hubby tersedar jugak but not in normal reactions. die terus bangun, sepantas kilat melulut. kepala tertolak kebelakang & make a weird sound..like...aaaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!! macam orang kene jerut.
i was panicked dan tak sengaja marah my dear hubby 'u nie kenapa dear'. lepas i asked him, die tersedar & terus bawak rayna keluar bilik. masa tuh rayna still menangis sekuatnya. eray pun terus follow rayna & hubby keluar bilik dengan perasaan seram & takut.
my mum pun terbangun disebabkan tangisan rayna. eray bagitau ibu ape yang jadi, terus ibu kejutkan ayah. alhamdulillah, ayah ade sikit ilmu bende-bende ghaib nie. ayah bacakan ayat quran kat air masak. pas2 ayah sapu kat muka rayna & renjis-renjis kat badan rayna. mr. hubby pun minum air tuh. pulihkan kembali semngat die. alhamdulilah rayna & mr. hubby dah kembali bertenang.
tapi perasaan takut & seram eray masih tak hilang lagi, nak jejakkan kaki masuk bilik terus naik bulu roma sebadan. ayah kate jangan masuk dulu bilik tuh, memang ada gangguan 'sesuatu' tadi. lebih kurang 1/2 an hours lepas kejadian, eray try bawak rayna masuk bilik. but she refused, 'taannnaakkkk' sambil geleng-geleng kepala. mungkin die masih teringat sesuatu tuh. huh bagaimanelah rupenya.....
huh i thought the scene was over, no its not. masih lagi ade rentetan. tapi bukan 'sesuatu' itu lagi. rayna terus merengek & menangis, badan die panas & rayna nampak tak selesa. eray ingat mungkin demam biasa. once again i tried to offer her my milk, she tried to suck dan tetiba die menangis lagi. tak kan susu eray dah xde, try pressed, masih ada susu yang keluar. jadi apa yang tak kene. bukan sekali, banyak kali rayna showed me that reaction.
sedar tak sedar, dah subuh & rayna masih tak nak tido & menangis kecil. tak nak letak, tak nak dengan orang lain. rayna hanya mahukan eray & my shoulder. huhuhuhuhu. poor my little one.
eray pun mula siasat, dari subuh sampai around 10.00am, takde satu pun andaian yang logic dan masuk akal. maklumlah kan eray baru ade anak sowang. akhirnya, eray telah temukan satu jawapan. ya! mulut rayna ada ulser, itupun lepas eray perasaan kenapa bibir die merah semacam. bila tengok dalam mulut dah ade ulser yang pecah. dan disebabkan itu rayna tak nak menyusu or take any liquid. ade jugak bintik-bintik merak kat kaki & tangan. eray suspect HFMD, hehehe tetiba jadi doctor, diagnosed penyakit anak sendiri. so untuk pengesahan eray & mr. hubby bawak rayna pegi clinic.
according to doctor, it's only infection from germs. doctor bekalkan 1 tiub anti fungal, 1 bottle of calamine lotion, ubat gatal+selsema & ubat demam. balik eray sapu & bagi rayna minum ubat-ubat tuh. menangis-nangis lah die.
10 hours, almost half day rayna did not drink or eat anything. eray takut rayna dehydrated. hati ibu mane yang tak sedey tengok anak menangis & tak nak consume ape-ape. ibu suggested to warm up ebm & give it to her. tapi eray degil, try jugak nak breastfeed rayna. but still, rayna geleng-geleng kepala bila nampak B. huhuhu rayna dah tak suke susu ibu ke? eray cakap sambil menangis.
akhirnya, eray buat jugak yang ibu suruh. warm up kan 4oz ebm & letak dalam botol. eray try bagi, mula-mula die tak nak. cuba lagi, alhamdulillah, akhirnya rayna minum jugak susu tuh. maybe sebab teats panjang dan tak perlu hisap kuat-kuat macam die breastfeeding.
lepas jek die minum susu, she behaved normally. macam takde ape-ape jadi sebelum tuh. main bola, gelak-gelak, main sheep-sheep.....eray dah lega dah. tapi bintik-bintik merah semakin naik kat kaki, tangan & badan.
kurang yakin dengan diagnose doctor on saturday, we all go again to clinic. alhamdulillah, kali nie jumpe doctor yang very detail. check punya check, muktamad rayna telah kene CHICKENPOX.
doctor kate, bile dalam bintik tuh ade target, maka itu adalah CHICKENPOX.
nampak tak dalam bulatan pink ade kaler hitam/coklat. so itu lar target. sebab bintat-bintat chickenpox nie nak dekat sama dengan kudis buta...comfius i.....hehehe.alhamdulillah, chickenpox cume naik kat area kaki & sedikit kat badan. so lebih kurang seminggu rayna back on track. jovial & funny as usual. huhu baru tahu camne rase anak kene chickenpox, tapi bersyukur sangat jika nak dibandingkan ujian & kesakitan yang anak-anak lain rasai. huhu sungguh terasa kerdil sungguh diri ini.
